About Aquarius Fish Systems
Aquarius Fish Systems was founded in 2009 by Eric Stone while he was a lab manager for one of the largest zebrafish labs in the world.
His experience there led him to conclude there were many ways to enhance and improve on the different systems he was managing. During the 10 years managing these labs Eric made many attempts to get the manufacturers to make changes and improve their systems but he realized they were not interested in his input. His frustration with the lack of quality, poor design of the systems made him decide to take matters into his own hands.
His early designs of the Aquarius Fish System were quite successful, since the years of lab management helped with knowing what worked and more importantly, what didn’t work. When designing Aquarius, aspects of the other systems that frustrated him were engineered out and in 2009, his first complete system was sold. Since then, the tanks, baffles, and other parts have been refined and re-tooled based on real-time input from clients who use the Aquarius systems.
Originally, the AFS proprietary parts (tanks, lids, baffles, etc.) were tooled and processed overseas. Today, all the tooling has been replaced with new tools, engineered and built in the U.S and all parts for our systems are processed in the U.S. In 2013, Aquarius Fish Systems partnered with Aquatic Enterprises, Inc. It was a win-win situation for both companies. For Aquarius, it gave them access to the staff of an aquatics of company with decades of experience in the field and the ability to market the systems to a wider audience. For Aquatic Enterprises, it enabled them to add a high-quality zebrafish system to their product lineup. It also gave both companies manufacturing capabilities on the West Coast and the East Coast, with supplies and experienced biologists in both locations.
